Kaloplocamus ramosus. This is a deep water nudibranch, and is normally only seen when dredged or trawled from several hundreds of meters depth. The wreck of the "Transvaal" is much shallower than that, but at 30m depth it is at the edge of normal SCUBA range, and the nudibranch may simply have eluded being seen regularly, especially by people who would recognize it.
If you have seen it, or have a photograph, let us know! A request from Georgina: she would like give this species a common name, as it does not have one, but cannot come up with a good one. If you have a nice one, please let us know - e-mail the editor here at SURG! Photographed on the "Transvaal". |
