Blacksaddle or rosy goatfish Parupeneus rubescens at Long Beach. This is one of the largest and most common goatfishes in southern Africa's tropical and sub-tropical waters. It occurs from the Red Sea along the western Indian Ocean to as far south as Cape Agulhas. From there it is a comparatively short distance by current to Cape Town, and as seems to be common, landed up in the calm waters of Long Beach. These two individuals are quite small, and hence young. Adults reach 45 cm in length. |
