Pinnacle is the only site SURG knows off where one can find this rare nudibranch with any certainty. A colony existed for a long time on a specific patch of sponge, although the number of individuals was declining. Peter Southwood, diving in the area, managed to find another, much larger colony. On a subsequent dive the original colony was found to be absent, but two smaller colonies were found not far from it, on the southern side of the actual pinnacle. All individuals were very small, with size being 1cm at most. For more information on this dorid, see "Nudibranchs of the Cape Peninsula and False Bay", available directly from SURG or better Cape Town dive shops. |
