Two feather nudibranchs at Windmill

A feather nudibranchs under the jetty in Simon's Town. Note that it is sitting on the same bryozoa as the one at Windmill - that is its food.

Feather nudibranch Thecacera pennigera at Windmill and Simon's Town.
This nudibranch is known to occur from Atlantic side of the Cape Peninsula (sightings at the wreck of the "Katzu Maru", for example), to Natal, and is furthermore known from a number of other areas in the world. Local sightings have been at the wreck mentioned, as well as Percy's Hole, on the eastern shore of False Bay. This is the first sighting of two individuals by SURG members at Windmill, the western side of False Bay.

Another individual was sighted about a week later at a dive under the jetty in Simon's Town.

For more details on the feather nudibranch, see "Nudibranchs of the Cape Peninsula and False Bay", available directly from SURG and better dive shops and books stores in Cape Town.
