A juvenile evil-eye pufferfish.
Photos Guido Zsilavecz.
This fish, about 5 cm long, was seen just off Castle Rocks. It was swimming off the bottom, but somewhat skittish when approached. From its fin configuration and overall look it seems to be a member of the Tetraodontidae, or pufferfishes. It did not, however, puff up, even when we held a hand around it. It is not the juvenile of the evil-eye pufferfish, Amblyrhynchotes honckenii, as this one we have seen, and clearly shows a resemblance to the adult. At 5 cm the unknown juvenile, it is also quite large, and thus likely to be the juvenile of one of the larger, sub-tropical or tropical pufferfishes.

If anybody has seen this fish before, has caught it, identified it, etc., please let us know!
