![]() ![]() Photos Hanief Ally | Santer Cheimerius rufar The santer's normal range is tropical and sub-tropical, ranging only as far as the eastern Cape, so this fish is a visitor. It is a juvenile, which is evident from the pattern of 5 vertical bars, which are a reddish in colour. These bars fade as the fish matures, when it becomes an overal silvery pink. Juveniles may be found inshore, including estuaries, but adults, which can grow to 75 cm, tend to remain further offshore, down to depths of at least 80 m. It is a common food fish in Mozambique. | |
