![]() ![]() ![]() Images Saul Goldman ![]() Photo Guido Zsilavecz | John Dory Zeus faber This fish is commonly found at depths beyond 60m, but is rare in shallower waters, at least in South Africa. Saul filmed his very small juvenile one in Hermanus, Guido has seen a larger juvenile in 6m of water at Windmill. John Dory's must be about the thinnest fish around, as from the front it is barely visible. Juveniles have a bold pattern on their side, which fades with age, and only a single, round spot remains on each side. This fish ranges far; from the Mediterranean to South Africa, and is also found in Australia, New Zealand and Japan. The adult shown was photographed in New Zealand, where it is regularly seen in much shallower waters than in South Africa. |
