Wonder-worm. Photos by Mike Bradley
Wonder-worm Eunice aphroditois
This wonder-worm was seen floating above the bottom at Oudekraal. It is normally not found like this, instead preferring to remain under boulders, especially where gravel allows them to bury. They can reach a length of up to 1m. It has large jaws which can snap closed very quickly, and the bite can be quite painful! It is usually found in the intertidal zone, but may occur in deeper waters as well.
