Sepp blatterii Sepp blatterii is an alien, invasive and destructive species which becomes an epidemic in a country or area every four years. While the species itself is mainly found in large, oval-shaped structures (which it incidentally does not build itself), the effects of the invasion can be felt far beyond them, not just in the country it is currently in, but world-wide. Interestingly enough, although the image shows such a structure close to the sea, closeness to water is not a pre-requisite, and the species may be abundant even at higher altitudes far from the nearest coast. While inducing short-term euphoria (generally at least one month, sometimes longer), it leaves massive headaches in its wake, generally of the financial kind. The euphoria itself manifests itself in many ways: in Brazil it induces much drumming and trance-like movements in humans, here in South Africa it just sounds like an African penguin except more annoying. The most interesting aspect of the species is that before invading it has the ability to cause a loss of rational thinking ahead of time, and it is generally invited in - for that matter, it is actively bid upon! Unfortunately, the wish to see the invasive species in action not only in the invaded country, but world-wide, means that it will remain a problem for the foreseeable future. Divers are advised to stay well clear of it - while the image shows one in water, they are rarely found there, and furthermore, the sea blocks out all that noise! |
